The Financial Administrator serves as the Business Manager for the College of Arts and Sciences Administrative (CAS) units, which encompasses the College as a whole, was well as three Divisional colleges that comprise the larger College. This role is responsible for managing the administrative budget, the strategic funds budgets allocated to the Division and Associate Deans, and for managing the distribution of funds that the College allocates to departments within CAS. Additionally, the Financial Administrator is responsible for the oversight of College gift accounts, reviewing availability and use of gift funds and proactively making recommendations regarding use of underutilized funds. Finally, this role is responsible for supervision of the Business Manager for CAS Centers and Interdisciplinary programs, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.

In managing the finances for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the Financial Administrator reviews, analyzes and evaluates the accuracy of general ledgers and payroll ledges in order to ensure funds are available to support costs associated with personnel and operational expenses, distributing funds from multiple College sources to CAS units to provide the financial support needed for each unit’s operations. Additionally, the position will support the annual budget process by reviewing position budgets for College Administration and updating as needed, and by analyzing College expenditures to ensure appropriate budgeting of operating funds. In order to manage the various funds and to ensure proper use of funding, the Financial Administrator will prepare financial reports to track expenditures. Additionally, this position will provide financial analysis on the use of College-administered funding to support the strategic decision making of College deans and directors.

The Financial Administrator will be responsible for reviewing the use of gift accounts across the College to ensure proper utilization, and will make recommendations for the strategic use of under-utilized gift funds. This role will also ensure the timely creation, update, and funding of the Startup accounts, tracking allocations and expenditures to ensure faculty have accurate information on account balances.

This position will have approval authority for human resources and payroll transactions related to College Administration employees, including management of College-awarded professorships and awards, ensuring timely processing for payment to recipients. The Financial Administrator will ensure timely communication with the Sr. General Ledger Accountant on matters related to labor distribution to ensure salaries are properly charged to appropriate accounts.

The Financial Administrator will supervise the Business Manager for the Centers and Institutes, and Interdisciplinary Programs within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of accounting/financial experience, including supervisor experience

  • OR Associate’s degree with 6 years of accounting/financial experience, including supervisor experience

  • OR High School Diploma with 8 years of accounting/financial experience, including supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Conceptual knowledge/understanding of basic accounting principles and demonstrated knowledge of a complex accounting system

  • Ability to understand and interpret fiscal policies and procedures appropriate to a Research University

  • Ability to supervise staff

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, summarize and communicate complex information

  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively at a high impact level

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Demonstrated command of spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR14

  • Anticipated hiring range: $89,500 - $105,000, depending on experience and qualifications
